Burgundy on a Plate offers wine tasting and gastronomy tours from one day to one week - it's up to you!
As an example, this is the itinerary for our 5 night, six day Heart of Burgundy tour. Apart from the tour described below, we offer a range of one day tours from 185 euros which you can view on our Burgundy on a Plate website on the one day tour page.
Heart of Burgundy Tour
Day 1 - Arrival day will include an introduction to wine tasting in Burgundy before a great first night dinner in an exceptional location. Day 2 takes us off to the medieval village of Flavigny sur Ozeraine where ‘Chocolat’ was filmed. We taste local bonbons and some wines from the Auxerrois. Lunch is in a Ferme Auberge run by a group of farmers’ wives using local produce. Burn off some calories with a walk around Flavigny’s ramparts. The stunning village and 12C castle in Chateauneuf en Auxois is on the menu for the afternoon. We return home via the picturesque Ouche Valley running alongside the Burgundy canal.

Day 3 – Your first tasting of the red wines of the Cotes de Nuits is in Nuits St Georges in a small family owned domaine. Lunch today is in Hautes Cotes de Nuits where hams are baked over the fire. A drive back through the vineyards takes us to meet our chef in his Beaune restaurant for a really fun, interactive cooking class. We return to his restaurant for a delicious meal that we might have helped to prepare!
Day 4 - Today it’s the turn of the Cote de Beaune. You will taste at a small family cellar in Meursault before going on to the renowned village of Puligny Montrachet. Here you will visit the cellar and vineyards of a well known winegrower. This is followed by a leisurely, informal tasting lunch in their restaurant. Take a break from tasting on a spectacular drive up into Hautes Cotes de Beaune where you will be entirely surrounded by vineyards. If time permits, you have a choice for our last event of the day – a further wine tasting or a visit to a pottery in one of the villages.

Day 5 – Market Day in Beaune. Meander around Beaune’s wonderful market, full of colourful vegetables and fruits, delicious cheeses, olives and pates. There will be a visit to the mustard museum for those interested. After lunch we go cheese tasting in a farm in the hills and a visit to the red fruits farm where berries are transformed by hand into a wealth of delicious products. The last night dinner is at a Michelin starred restaurant in wonderful surroundings. Day 6. Departure day and we take you back to Dijon station during the morning to fit in with your personal travel arrangements.
Typical Day
A typical wine tasting day would start around 9.30 when you will be collected from your hotel or the local train station if you are coming from Paris. We go to our first tasting of the day and en route, your guide will find out your level of wine knowledge and go through some of the basics of Burgundy's wine region, so that when we start the tastings, the knowledge will be reinforced during the day. Our winegrowers are predominantly family owned domains with plenty of history behind them. If they don't speak english, your guide is there to translate. We taste through three of the four levels to premier cru quality with the occasional tasting of grand cru. If you require a grand cru tasting specifically, this can be arranged at additional cost. After the first tasting we move on to the second cellar before an excellent lunch in a wine village, renowned for its specialities of the region. The afternoon is reserved for a final cellar visit and a drive through the renowned vineyards and village of the region including the upper slopes. We would normally drop you back at your hotel or station around 17h30.

Age range, type of group
Our age range seems to be 20's to 70's. As these are wine tours, they are not suitable for children under 16. We have groups of friends or colleagues, singles, couples, young people to seniors. On our one day wine tours we take from 2 to 8 people. If a group is larger than 8, please contact us in advance as we have to arrange a bus with a driver as well as a wine guide. As a very flexible company, we do our best to accommodate your requests.
Sleeping and meals
We only use 3 and 4 star hotels in and around Beaune. If you are staying just for a night or two, we can give you our recommended accommodation list to enable you to make your own choice. In this list we also include bed and breakfast accommodation.

Restrictions
Our restrictions are few! No pets, no smoking in any of the venues or in the bus - but you can sneak a cigarette outside in the vineyards! We would prefer not to take minors under the age of 14 because of the nature of the tour, but we have taken the occasional baby around the vineyards!

Many thanks for all your help during our ( too brief ) stay . We are all agreed that you got it spot on with our visit , mixing the size, variety and quality of visits/wine tasting perfectly.. Certainly your reputation seems very good as they all seemed happy to see you and of course that makes the visits much more personal and thus enjoyable. All in all great fun and much enjoyed by us all. David Sibree for the Benfield Group, UK
We can't stop talking about what a great time we had with you in Burgundy. As Rich said, this weekend we shared a fabulous dinner with our friends and dazzled them with our new found knowledge of wines and food. The prior weekend, we went to a party where I brought a platter with Epoisse cheese and french bread. It was devoured quickly! Thanks again for your warmth and hospitality. ……..Patti & Richard Eisenberg – USA

The two days that we spent with you in December - one day for a wine tour and one day for the truffle hunt were exceptional. The wine tour was "THE REAL THING", talking and tasting with the actual winemakers in small historic cellars. It was delightful and we were so pleased that the tastings were not the commercial kind open to everyone. You were obviously respected by the wine makers we visited and the truffle hunt was not only entertaining, but also very educational. We would take both tours again and would recommend them to anyone wanting to get a true insider's view of Burgundy.
